sonia tapestry 2013

Tapestry does not come easy to me but I find it so satisfying. We were working on an Archie Brennan style loom which was such a great way to start weaving. However, it was challenging to keep from drawing in and as a result my finished piece is not exactly square. Still, I love the process. It’s very methodical and meditative. This piece reminds me very much of Sonia Delaunay. I used an oil painting by Charles Green Shaw that was done in 1941 as a starting point. I like to think Sonia was aware of his work.
