heather chontosI’m starting work on a compositional surface design piece and thinking a lot about more abstract, non-representational work. I’m still interested in working with maps but I feel like I want a visual break from structure and order. I’m thinking of working more spontaneously which is a huge stretch for me.

I’m smitten with the work of Heather Chontos. Her use of line, shape and colour create these layered, restful yet energized pieces. To me they seem like a landscape to inhabit. The use of collage and the mixed media aspect really appeals to me and has me thinking more about bringing paper into my work.
